Orlando Bites is a restaurant review site run by me, James, in Orlando, Florida. This page explains what information the site collects when you visit, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: I use Google Analytics to see which reviews people read, and if you contact me or sign up for the newsletter I get the details you type in. That’s it.

What’s collected

Site statistics (Google Analytics)

The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are popular. Google Analytics sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_…) and records things like the pages you view, how long you stay, the site that sent you, your device and browser type, and your approximate location (city or region). I only see this in aggregate, as totals and charts. I can’t identify you from it.

Google processes this data under its own policies. You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services, and you can opt out of Google Analytics on every site with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Maps

Review pages include a Google Maps embed showing where the restaurant is. Loading it connects your browser to Google, which may set its own cookies under the Google Privacy Policy. The restaurant map page and the maps in guides use map images from Mapbox; loading them sends your IP address to Mapbox, but they don’t set cookies.

Contact form and email

If you use the contact form, your name, email address and message are emailed to me through Google Workspace. I use them only to reply to you, and I keep them in my email like any other message.

Newsletter

If you sign up for the newsletter, your email address is added to my mailing list on Mailchimp, which sends the emails. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from future emails right away.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel keeps short-lived server logs (including IP addresses) to run the site and keep it secure.

What isn’t collected

Orlando Bites doesn’t run ads, ad-tracking pixels or social media trackers, and it doesn’t sell or rent your information to anyone. There are no accounts or logins, and the site itself doesn’t set any cookies; the cookies mentioned above come from Google.

Your choices

  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works fine without them.
  • Opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s opt-out add-on.
  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter with the link at the bottom of any email.
  • Ask me to delete your messages or newsletter signup, or ask what I have about you, by emailing James@OrlandoBites.com.

Children

Orlando Bites is written for adults and doesn’t knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes

If what the site collects changes, I’ll update this page and the date at the top. Questions? Email James@OrlandoBites.com or use the contact form.
